Easy DIY Pipe Cleaner Flower Craft: Two-Tone Lily Tutorial
Share
Lily is a classic and simple pipe cleaner craft. With a simple twist, you can create a different lily with more depth and dimension to your handmade flower crafts. This two-tone pipe cleaner lily combines elegance with vibrant contrast, making it the perfect centerpiece for DIY bouquets, personalized gifts, or springtime home decor.
Using just a few pipe cleaners, you can create a realistic, multi-layered lily with gentle curves and soft color transitions—ideal for craft beginners and handmade flower lovers alike!
✂️ What You’ll Need
To make one two-tone lily, gather:
- 5 lighter-color pipe cleaners (for inter petals)
- 3 deeper-color pipe cleaners (for outer petals)
- 1 outer-petal-color pipe cleaner (for stamen)
- 2 green pipe cleaner (for the leaf)
- Stem
- Floral tape
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun (optional)
🌈 Tip: Choose contrasting tones like white & lavender, or cream & coral for a striking flower!
🧵 Step-by-Step Instructions
🌼 Step 1: Make the Petals
You’ll need 5 petals total, each with two colors.
1️⃣Cut both light and dark pipe cleaners in half. Take two halves of the light color and one half of the dark color, fold all three in half. Thread the dark pipe cleaner through the center of the two lighter ones.
2️⃣Twist the dark pipe cleaner to lock the two lighter ones in place. This forms the base structure of the petal.
3️⃣Bend both ends of the dark pipe cleaner downward along the sides of the lighter ones. Gently align and smooth all strands into petal shape.
4️⃣Twist all pipe cleaner ends together tightly at the base to secure the petal.
5️⃣Repeat to make a total of 5 petals for one lily flower.
💛 Step 2: Create the Stamen
1️⃣Take one-half of a dark pipe cleaner and form a small loop at one end.

2️⃣Wrap the loop around the base twice to build a fuller pistil shape.

3️⃣Twist the remaining end tightly, then pull the looped top upward to mimic natural stamen filaments.

🌿 Step 3: Create the Leave
1️⃣Take two green pipe cleaners and fold each one in half.

2️⃣Twist the upper stem once more and gently pull it downward, tucking it between the bottom strands.

3️⃣Flatten and smooth the shape, creating a clean leaf outline.
4️⃣Measure a few inches from the end and twist tightly to lock the shape.

5️⃣Finally, bend the leaf slightly to give it a natural curve and movement.
🌸 Step 4: Assemble the Lily
1️⃣Apply a small amount of hot glue to the base of the stamen (flower center). Then, attach the petals one at a time, starting with even spacing around the center.
2️⃣Slightly overlap each petal as you go, arranging them in a natural, circular formation to mimic real lily blooms.
3️⃣Once all petals are in place, wrap the base tightly with green floral tape or a green pipe cleaner. This secures the flower head and forms the beginning of the stem.
4️⃣Optional: Attach one or two pipe cleaner leaves near the lower part of the stem to add realism and a soft botanical finish.
